Good Boundaries and Goodbyes with Lysa TerKeurst
(Episode 2 July 2026)

In this interview, Ian Cron and Lysa TerKeurst discuss her journey with codependency and boundaries in the context of the enneagram. Listeners will find they can communicate their limits in a balanced and loving manner. Both enneagram nines and twos are mentioned throughout the interview due to the natural tendency of both to want to please others above listening to their own needs. However, there are deep nuggets of truth for everyone who has ever found themselves in a relationship that was draining their joy.

The interview also delves into the spiritual realm, specifically the work that TerKeurst has had to do around her faith. Initially, she used her faith as many do: to bypass her pain and healing rather than allowing it to give her the strength to go through the pain and get to the healing. She revealed how faith, just like chemical addictions, can be used as a coping mechanism of avoidance. She discusses hyper-spiritualizing in such a way that we can actually leap frog over painful feelings rather than facing them. She also distinguishes between a faith or sacrifice for a high and holy purpose versus a faith or sacrifice that enables bad behavior in others. With wisdom and grace, TerKeurst shares some of the mantras she has found that brought stability and vitality back to her life:

“I will no longer diminish the best of who I am to cover up for the worst of who someone else is.” – TerKeurst

“While my heart says yes, the reality of my time makes this a no.” – TerKeurst

“Their emergency is not my responsibility.” – TerKeurst

“Jesus laid down his life to accomplish a high and holy purpose; Jesus did not lay down his life to enable bad behavior.” – TerKeurst
