The Thing That’s Running Your Life (Episode 11)

On The Place We Find Ourselves Podcast, Adam Young offers insight on the topic of implicit memory. There are many times in life where our reactions might be oversized or seem like they do not fully fit the situation. Maybe it is a level 3 situation and we respond with a level 9 reaction. In this episode, it becomes very clear how and why this occurs. Knowing the difference between explicit memory and implicit memory can be invaluable in our everyday relationship interactions. Implicit memory is encoded in our subconscious or body cell memory. Learning how to notice our reactions and understanding that, regardless of how big, they come from a very reasonable, logical place is instrumental in freeing us from unwanted relationship difficulties. This episode explains the physiology underneath often quoted phrase by Carl Jung: “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
